Alleppey is the point of convergence of most outings to the celebrated backwaters of Kerala. Named the âVenice of the Eastâ, Alleppey (nullAlappuzha in Malayalam) is a backwater shelter with an exceptional confounding organization of channels and tidal ponds that spread across the focal point of the town. The Venetian mood of Alleppey is improved by the coir-made houseboats that punt along relaxed on the backwaters. An abundance of sanctuaries and places of worship add character to this downplayed ocean side retreat. The Alleppey Beach is another highpoint â it is an unblemished stretch of sand binding a rough Arabian Sea, with an old character-filled dock, around 140 years of age, reaching out into the ocean.
